Irene Dussin
E-commerce Solutions Manager

Irene shares her journey into e-commerce, what drew her to the role she has today, and how curiosity, design, and customer experience shape the way she works. From career-defining moves to the values that continue to guide her, Irene reflects on the path that brought her here and what continues to inspire her.

Can you tell us about your background, how you arrived in your current role, and what drew you to it?

I started my career in CRM for a trade show organiser in Italy after completing a Master’s in Marketing & Communication. Over time, I realised I wanted to work closer to products and end consumers. Driven by curiosity and a strong interest in innovation, I decided to explore e-commerce.

I took a leap by joining a footwear brand, which also meant moving from Italy to Amsterdam. Both professionally and personally, it was an exciting turning point and the moment my career in e-commerce truly began.

From that first step, my interest in e-commerce only grew. I gained experience across different aspects of e-commerce while working with fashion brands, which eventually led me to Not selling liquid. Here, I enjoy working with multiple brands while having a broader, agency-level view of the industry, spotting trends, identifying opportunities, and helping brands grow in a constantly evolving landscape.

Looking at your career, when did you realize that this type of work truly suited you?

I realised this work truly suited me when I saw how e-commerce brings together strategy, design, psychology, and data. I’m especially drawn to the behavioural and design side of e-commerce, creating clear, intuitive journeys that guide customers through a brand’s world and make it easy to explore and buy.

I believe good e-commerce isn’t just about aesthetics, but about purpose. Every choice should support the customer experience, remove friction, and strengthen the connection between people and brands in the digital space.

Does that mean working in fashion is essential for you, or could you see yourself in another industry?

Fashion isn’t essential. What matters most is liking and believing in the product. That could be fashion, beauty, or something entirely different, as long as I feel connected to what I’m working on.

Growing up in Italy, are there habits or values that still influence your life today?

Enjoying life, especially through food, is something that has always stayed with me. Some of my fondest memories come from the kitchen, watching my grandmums and my mum cook, moments that were both calm and chaotic at the same time. I loved the smells, the sounds, and the little rituals of preparing meals for the family, and then sharing everything together at the table. Food has a way of bringing me joy, connection, and that feeling of home.

That love for food seems to be a recurring theme. What is your favorite dish, both to make and to eat?

Pizza, without a doubt.

And when you’re not making it yourself, where do you like to go for a really good pizza in the city?

There are a few places I really enjoy. In the West, my favourite is Pazzi on De Clercqstraat, which serves Roman-style pizza, my favourite type. Now that I live in the East, we’ve discovered a new spot close to home, Pizza Vagabond. They make Neapolitan-style pizza with amazing ingredients, and it’s quickly become a go-to for us.

You sometimes bring your dog to the office. How does he fit into your daily routine?

Having a dog brings structure to my day in a very positive way. Caring for him adds routine and balance, and raising him from a puppy has taught me so much about communication and understanding behaviour. He’s a bundle of happiness, full of energy and love, and he never fails to bring a little joy and a laugh into every day.

And what does he enjoy most about office days?

Definitely the attention. He’s very social, happy, and playful, and loves being around people.

When you have time completely to yourself, how do you like to unwind?

When I have time completely to myself, I like to slow my mind down and do things that bring me back to a more creative, hands-on space. Reading, yoga, cooking, and painting or drawing help me disconnect and find balance. Lately, Bruno has taken over a big part of my free time, in the best possible way. Spending time outdoors with him, going for walks, and playing in the park has become my new way of unwinding and recharging.

Looking ahead, what are you curious to explore next?

This year, I’m embracing the journey itself, maybe that’s my goal. I like to stay curious and open, trusting that new opportunities will come naturally along the way. I’m especially excited by how AI is shaping the future of e-commerce and the digital world, and I love exploring the possibilities it opens up.

To finish on a very Italian note: which family dish do you think everyone should try at least once?

In my region, we call it pasticcio, which is essentially lasagna. There are so many variations, including vegetarian ones. In my family, we have a version for each season, using the ingredients that define that time of year and celebrating them at their very best. I love this idea of “honoring” the rhythm of the seasons.
